We all wish to have a long and healthy life. But unfortunately sometimes we fall sick due to Mosquito borne disease. Mosquito can cause different deadly disease like Malaria, Filaria, Dengue, Chikungunya and Zika. Let’s know something about Malaria, Viral fevers and their Ayurvedic treatments. Malaria is caused by parasitic protozoan belonging to plasmodium type. Symptoms include fever, vomiting, headache and body pain. They appear for about ten to fifteen days from being bitten by mosquito. It is spread by infected female Anopheles Mosquito. When the Mosquito bites sporozites are transmitted into the human body. They travel through the blood vessels to the Liver where they multiply asexually. Thousands of Merozoites are produced which infect the Red Blood cells and cause Blood schizogony that then produce eight to twenty four merozoites per Blood cell. Then the Red Blood cell bursts and dies releasing the parasites into the Blood stream. These then infect new Red Blood cells and the cycle repeats itself without end.

The periodical Chills and Fever are caused each time Merozoites infect the fresh Red Blood cells. The parasite is protected from the immune system because it predominantly resides in the Liver and Red Blood cell. But some circulating infected Red blood cell are destroyed in the Spleen. Malaria is detected in labs using Microscopic examination of Blood films or Antigen based Rapid diagnostic tests. The classic symptoms of Malaria are paroxysm that is coldness followed by shivering followed by sweating and fever repeated every two days. Mosquito spread disease can be prevented by using Mosquito nets, electronic repellent, sprays and body repellent. Malaria is usually treated in Allopathy using Artemisin, Mefloquine, Lumifantrine and Quinine. It is rampant in tropical and equatorial nations.

Ayurvedic Philosophy and Treatment for Malaria and Viral Fevers

Doshas
The Viral and Chill Fevers are of five types depending on the dosha. In Ayurveda there are three types of doshas. Doshas are energies that perform various physical and physiological functions in the human body. They are ..

  • Vatam dosha:
Energies associated with motion like blood circulation, heart beat, breathing and many more.
  • Pitta dosha:
Energies associated with metabolism like nutrition, digestion, body temperature and excretion.
  • Kapham dosha:
Energies associated with growth in the body. Also water supply to body parts and immune system.

Dhatus in Ayurveda

Dhatus are intrinsic to understand Malaria and Viral fevers. The various Dhatus that are fundamental elements which support the body structure and metabolism of the body are,

  • Rasa dhatu: lymph system
  • Rakta dhatu: Blood
  • Mamsa dhatu: Muscles
  • Medha dhatu: Fat
  • Asthi dhatu: Bones
  • Majju dhatu: Marrow of bone and spine
  • Shukra dhatu: Semen

When the disease is present in the Rasa dhatu means lymph system. The Fever is continuous for seven, ten or twelve days. When the disease is present in the Rakta dhatu means blood system. The Fever is continuous and peaks twice a day. When the disease is present in the Mamsa dhatu means muscle system. The patient gets Fever once a day. When the disease is present in the Medha dhatu means fat. The patient gets Fever alternate days. When the disease is present in the Asthi dahtu means bones. The patient gets Fever on first day and no Fever next two days. Before Fever escalates on the fourth day, The cycle repeats. When Fever as mentioned above occurs, the body temperature rises to 105 degrees along with vomiting, Chill, gnashing the Teeth and Body ache. These symptoms continue for an hour and latter for intense sweating for six hours. Afterwards Fever subsides on its own without medication and the patient almost feels normal. Patient falls asleep and almost feels cured. But the next day this vicious cycle repeats itself. If left untreated death may occur.
