The symptoms may be different according to the affected parts. For pleural mesothelioma the fluid get accumulate in pleural space for the reason shortness of breath, chest pain, cough blood in sputum etc. occurs.
In abdominal mesothelioma anemia, abdominal swelling, weight loss blood clotting abnormalities etc. are usual symptoms
In the case of heartsmall tumors in the heart wall occurs obstructing bood flow. This will increase blood pressure level and causes many other abnormalities. If any tumorous growth occurs at AV node sudden death may be result.
On severe condition this cancer causes growth of tumorous masses in body cavities and may spred to other part of bodiescausing pain fever jaundice etc. Andthe symptoms may not appear upto 50 years after exposure.

The diagnosis of Mesothelioma is often difficult and also treatment of malignant cancer. If identified in time there are many types of treatments available. The treatment actually depends on many factors such as size and location of tumor age and physical nature of patient and mainly the stage of cancer.

In surgery, which is mostly adopted by people in this the lining of chest is removed or hemi diaphragum and pericardium are removed.
Another method is Radiation therapy in this the localised canser cells are removed using radiation and patients undrgone this is expected to extend their life upto 5 or more years. The side effects are less in this method thanthat in chemo therapy.

Chemotherapy is also found to be use ful in curing of pleural Mesothelioma,But has many side effects. In Heated Intraoperative Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy The surgeon removes as much of the tumor as possible followed by the direct administration of a chemotherapy agent, heated to between 40 and 48°C, in the abdomen. The fluid is perfused for 60 to 120 minutes and then drained.

Immuno therapy is another try in this field. Bacillus Calmette-Guerin(BCG) is inoculated into patients but this was found to be of no use and had many side effects also.

The researches are going on in the field of curing Mesothelioma and is expected to attain great success in near future.

Ayurvedic medicines can be given as additional therapy to the standard line of treatment for lung cancer. The aim of treatment is to control the lung cancer, prevent or reduce its spread to other parts of the body and improve overall survival. Medicines which act specifically on the lung tissue are used for this condition. These include Ras-Sindur, Sameer-Pannag-Ras, Nag-Guti, Chaturbhuj-Ras, Hema-Garbha-Ras, Laxmi-Vilas-Ras, Karpuradi-Churna, Kantakari-Avleha, Bhallatak-Asav, Vasavaleha, Sitopaladi-Churna, Talisadi-Churna, Pippalyadi-Ghrut and Drakshasav. Herbal medicines useful in this condition are: Kantakari (Solanum xanthocarpum), Bhruhat-Kantakari (Solanum indicum), Vasa (Adhatoda vasaka), Yashtimadhuk (Glycerrhiza glabra), Pippali (Piper longum), Behada (Terminalia bellerica), Bharangee (Clerodendron serratum), Kushtha (Saussurea lappa), Dhatura (Dhatura fastuosa) and Pushkarmool (Inula racemosa). The medicines Kanchnaar-Guggulu and Maha-Manjisthadi-Qadha are used in very high doses to prevent spread of the tumor locally or to other parts of the body.

Medicines like Suvarna-Malini-Vasant, Madhu-Malini-Vasant, Vasant-Kusumakar-Ras, Suvarna-Sameerpannag-Ras, Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), Suvarna-Bhasma and Heerak- Bhasma are used to control the tumor and to improve the immune status of the body. Dashmooladi-Ghrut, Haritaki-Avaleha, Chyawanprash-Avaleha and Bhallatak-Asav are also used for this purpose.

Compared to other cancers, lung cancer has a very poor prognosis, in spite of the latest available modern treatment. The concurrent use of Ayurvedic medicines therefore, assumes more importance, to control the tumor, improve quality of life and improve the survival rate. All such patients should be under the regular care and supervision of an Oncology team.
