It is very often that we hear an astrologer dole out terms like Rajyoga, Maharpurusha    yogas or Mahabhagya yogas while reading a horoscope and leaving the rest to    the imagination. What are these astrological combinations, what do they mean?    Good yogas add a lot of weight to a horoscope and generally famous people and    celebrities have these yogas in their charts which make them special and different    from the ordinary mundane people.

Yogas are permutations and combinations of planets which are special and add    strength to the horoscope if positive and removes vitality from it if adverse.    Yogas tend to show the degree of wealth, fame, rank, position, adversity, ill-health    a man is likely to enjoy in this life as a sequel to his own actions. There    are more than five hundred such yogas in astrology.

There are twelve houses in a natal horoscope and these are ruled by different    planets. Each ascendant has certain planets disposed towards it as yogakarakas(planet    which gives rise to a yoga). The ascendant is of utmost importance while deciding    the benefic and malefic lords. According to natural classification benefics    (good planets) are Jupiter, Venus, well associated Mercury and waxing Moon and    malefics(adverse planets) are the Sun, Mars, Saturn, evil associated Mercury    and the Moon.

Benefics: Lord of 1, 5 and 9 and lords of 4,7 and 10 if they are natural    malefics.

Malefics: Lords of 3, 6 and 11. Lords of 4, 7 and 10 if they are natural    benefics

Neutral: Lords of 2, 8 and 12 are neutral.

Key planets for each ascendant sign ( Make a box )

Aries: Jupiter and Sun are the best planets. Jupiter is the yogakaraka    or the planet producing success.

Taurus: Saturn is the most auspicious and powerful planet and produces    Rajyoga.

Gemini: Venus is the best and the most beneficial planet .

Cancer: Mars is the Rajayogakaraka. Mars and Jupiter give good results.

Leo: Mars is the most auspicious and favourable planet. Conjunction    of Jupiter and Mars produces Rajyoga.

Virgo: Venus is the most powerful planet. Mercury and Venus together    cause Rajayoga.

Libra: Saturn causes Rajyoga. Mercury and Saturn produce good results.

Scorpio: Jupiter is beneficial. Sun and the Moon produce Rajyoga.

Sagittarius: Mars is the best planet and in conjunction with Jupiter    produces much good. When Sun and Mars combine together they produce Rajyoga.

Capricorn: Venus is the most powerful planet and in conjunction with    Mercury produces Rajyoga.

Aquarius: Venus alone is auspicious. The combination of Venus and Mars    causes Rajyoga.

Pisces: The Moon and Mars are auspicious. Mars with Moon or Jupiter    causes Rajyoga.

Yogas fall in two categories: Yogas and Aristhas i.e fortune and misfortune.    Yogas include success in every line - health, personality, success in politics,    financial gains, good education, mental strength, bodily health, good life and    so on aristhas or misfortunes include all sorts and sources of sorrows, worries,    miseries, troubles and disease and so on. Some broad categories of the yogas    are the following:

Some Special Yogas:

Gajakesari: If jupiter is in a kendra ( 1/4/7/10 ) from the moon Gajakesari    yoga is caused. It is one of most auspicious yogas in astrology and shows a    person who is fortunate and lucky, has a good reputation and will reach some    position of eminence in life.

Buddha Aditya Yoga: If Mercury combines with the Sun, the combination    goes under the name of Buddha-Aditya yoga. Such people are highly intelligent,    skilful in all works, good reputation, personal respect and surrounded by all    comforts and happiness. This yoga is very common and is special because any    planet in association with the Sun becomes combust and loses its power to do    good.

Lakshmi Yogas: If the lord of the ascendant is powerful and the lord    of the 9th occupies own or exaltation sign identical with a kendra or Trikona,    this yoga is caused. Such a person will be wealthy, noble. Learned, a man of    high integrity and reputation, handsome appearance and partakes of all the pleasures    and comforts in life.

Sunapha yoga: If there are planets(excepting the sun) in the second    house from the moon, sunapha yoga is caused. It indicates self-earned property,    a status equivalent to that of a king, ruler or his equal, intelligent, wealthy    with good reputation.

Anapha yoga: If there are planets in the twelfth from the moon, Anapha    yoga is caused. It indicates a person who is of good appearance, generous, polite,    self -respecting and moves into spiritual life at a later stage.

Chandra Mangala yoga: If Mars conjoins the moon this yoga is formed.    This yoga produces bright results as far as the finances are concerned. The    exact nature of the effects depends on the position of the yoga as reckoned    from the ascendant. It is a powerful factor in establishing a persons financial    worth

Pancha Maha Purusha yoga: Varahamihira in Brihat Samhita has extolled    five combinations producing five type of great men.

Hamsa Yoga: Jupiter should occupy a kendra(1/4/7/10) which should be    his own house or exaltation sign. Handsome and good looking you will be liked    by others, he will be righteous in disposition and pure in mind. The strength    of the yoga depends on the strength of Lagna and Jupiter and in which Kendra    he is disposed. It makes a person idealistic, spiritual, broad minded and selfless.

Malavya yoga: Venus should occupy Kendra( 1/4/7/10) which should be    in his own or exaltation sign. The person will have a well-developed physique,    will be strong-minded, wealthy, happy with children and wife, will command vehicles,    renowned and learned. Venus is the indicator of conveyance, sensual pleasures,    music, dancing, fine arts, luxury and material comforts.

Sasa yoga: If Saturn occupies a kendra ( 1/4/7/10) which is its own    or exaltation sign, Sasa yoga comes into effect. One born in this yoga will    be the head of a village or town or king and will command authority and good    servants. This yoga gives a person slightly adverse traits also like coveting    others riches and being wicked in disposition( this depends on the position    of the moon).

Ruchaka yoga: Mars should be exalted or in its own sign in a kendra    (1/4/7/10). The person born in this yoga will have a strong physique, will be    famous, well versed in ancient lore, king or equal to a king , conforming to    traditions and customs. This person is attractive, has a charitable disposition,    wealthy, long-lived and leader of an army.

Bhadra yoga: Bhadra yoga is caused by the disposition of mercury in    a kendra(1/4/7/10) which should be identical with his own or exaltation sign.    This yoga makes a person strong, good looking and helpful and successful. Mercury    is the planet of intellect and in consonance with the inherent nature of mercury(    sharp, intelligent and versatile).

hey. people only look at comfortable yogas even for malefic planets

they invented something called neecha bhanga raja yoga but forgot conviniently that there can also be a uchha bhanga daridra yoga

neecha bhanga raja yoga : when a planet is debilated or neecha in raasi during birth but is in its own sign or exalted/uchha in navamsa then b]neecha bhanga raja yoga[/b] works and during that dasa, native will have very good results by that planet.

but if planet is retro, reverse happens.

uchha bhanga daridra yoga : when a planet is exalted or uccha in raasi during birth but is debilated/neecha is navamsa, then uchha bhanga daridra yoga works and during that dasa native will suffer due to all matters related to that planet

again but if planet is retro, reverse happens.

Samantha

correct ! we only consider all good looking convinient yogas in our horoscope
best way is to show our chart to an impartial and harsh astrologer

JayTee

also to enjoy fruits of these yogas (good/bad) one has to have dasas going in right order
one may have daridra yoga but if all his dasas are favourable till he dies, then he wont ever face it
same with good yogas if he has unfav dasas

Ravi Varma

most people wont look at both aspects : yogas and dasas to follow in future

if they find some good yogas, they\'ll conviniently conclude that all is great. you\'ll become an emperor, you will ride elephants, you\'ll have dozen kids etc

in reality this guy will be running through worst dasa and yoga still works but in this way : he will be a goon in his neighbourhood, he won\'t have his own vehicle and will always ask for a ride, he will have too many kids who will follow his golden footsteps

Can I, as a human being, lead a different kind of life?

Sujay

Well. Do these yogas work? Am sure it doesnt work. I have seen no results out of these yogas. I would like to know if anyone has made a case study of atleast 30 charts and analysed if these yogas has really worked?
Well guys, its time for more scientific and practical analysis.

Seetaram

i\'ve personally seen many people born with 3 or 4 exalted planets and many so-called yogas in their charts but their lives were pathetic.
at the same time i\'ve seen many avayogas and 4 debilitated planets but still that person had all comforts.

its time to quit outdated books translated from slokas and move on to pratical method, K.P
All human actions have one or more of these seven causes: chance, nature, compulsion, habit, reason, passion, and desire

Well said Mr.Seetaram! Even I\'ve seen many people with lots of Yogas who are leading a pretty normal life, even few of them are suffering. At the same time on seeing some of the successful people\'s horos, I have wondered why they are successful.  We don\'t have proper answers for them in Vedic. After coming here I think I\'ve got the answer.. It should be KP.. But still yet to experience it personally.. Still enjoyed the predictions of World Cup and other common issues..
Thanks & Regards,
