if you want to preserve lady fingers fresh for long time, then cut both ends and wrap them in a plastic cover and store them in refrigirator.
they will be fresh even after a week

if you want to preserve apple pieces without losing color inside(even after cutting), apply some salt on insides

keep them immersed in a mud pot with wet cloth tied around it
