Title: How do a Vedic Astrologer define the word "Marriage"?
Post by: Suniljitto on April 28, 2010, 09:09:36 PM
How does \"marriage\" differ in Vedic and Western Astrology?

I had spent some very short span in the big country like U.S. and a small one like Philippines. There I noticed that people of opposite genders stay togather, produce kids and live happily without actually getting legally married. There were also some instances that a woman will have three kids from three different relations/partners and then settle down with the fourth one(again without getting married to either of them).

I have noticed that maximum %age of couples are like this.

So as a vedic astrologer, how do we interpret their married life?
Are they married or they dont have any marriage yoga in their chart or they have multiple marriages in their chart?

marriage is just a social announcement and useful for legal purposes only
like when you might want to seperate you can decide on how to divide bank balance, properties, assets  and kids

if you are livin together relation, you can anytime walkout without legal issues

In india marriage is traditionally seen as relation between 2 families, so 2,7,11 houses , their sublords and significators are considered to look up marriage prospects in a chart
in west may be very few families get united by marriage so only 7 and 11 houses are enough
7th house shows partner (it can be one night stands, short term relation, living together or even legal spouse)
11th house shows their min, acceptance of relation and love towards their spouse
but 2nd house is legal change of lastname, family formation etc

we can ignore 11th house for many cases in this generation as your wife/husband may or may not love you but still remain under legal bond (7th house) and in your family or for your family/kids(2nd house)

if its only 11th and no 2nd involved, it can be a livin-together relation or just love affair
