Title: Shortage of Space in Graveyards by 2050
Post by: JayTee on April 18, 2010, 02:54:43 PM
World population is more than 6,815,100,000 now and it will be doubled by 2050 atleast.
If we go on burying all deceased bodies , then in next few years where on earth will we have space to bury 6 billion people ?

if we bury all of them and leave those areas for graveyards, then how much land will be left for agriculture, business, buildings, roads etc?

Already there are proposals for double burials with 2 bodies on top of one another in few countries.
Isn\'t this an insult to the dead ?

i think they do the double burials in lots of countires...maybe cremation will become more mainstream by then. i think i read somewhere that the ashes are good for growing too..it sounds morbid but it\'s nature!

why dont they too adapt cremation(burning) of dead bodies which saves lots of space on earth.
Hindus burn the bodies and mix the ash and bones in river water.
The concept behind this is bones are made of calcium which doesnt not decompose in earth\'s soil for 1000s of years and it causes obsctruction for growth of proper soil useful for cultivation of plants etc

but if you leave them in flowing rivers, they mix up into seas and oceans which have heavy salt water which can break down bones in lesser time.
and this calcium is useful for fish and other sea population

that\'s really interesting ravi! i never knew the calcium could help sea life. i\'ve always leaned more towards cremation against my family\'s beliefs but now i think it\'s definitely the best way to dispose of the body. especially now that i know the ashes can benefit both animals and the earth. good to know.

ancient hindus identified this problem ages ago and started burning dead bodies
they even burned dead animals and birds

epic book Ramayan has an episode where jatayu (eagle species) which was killed by raavan was burned later by Raam.

also burning os good because, if the dead had some diseases in their body, those bacteria and virus also will be burned into ashes and then useful for earth and sea.

if you bury them, those germs will still be alive and spread through soil

buddists realised this and started burning dead bodies

many religions bury and thats the reason why they make horror movies with half de-composed faces of ghosts as they imagine similar bodies in coffins
some day they\'ll realise that there\'s no more space to bury new bodies and atleast they\'ll understand why hindus and buddhists burned bodies

i dont know where in Quran or Bible did those authors mention to bury a corpse
i dont see reasons to follow that.
May be because both christians and muslims came from same race of Abraham, they just followed those jewish traditions

even animals were cremated not burned in india in past days
this way you can prevent virus and bacteria in their bodies from spreading

these days electric cremation is safe to save environment too

I was recently in HK and came across this news that buying burial space for future has become a good investment in China and HK and burial space being more costly than other real estate.

The price of Shanghai burial plots has soared over the past years, with the most expensive 50,000 yuan (US$7,622) per square meter for high-end spaces. The price is even higher than some local real estate, costing an average of 19,216 yuan (US$2,929) per square meter in March, according to a report on China-based Sohu.com.

this is how dead bodies are stacked in spain.
soon this will happen in other countries where dead are buried

then people will mention in their \'WILL\' about a major share of their savings buying their stack space and nobody will \'REST IN PEACE\' above each other

Vulture count down, more Parsis go for burial, cremation

Facing a growing crisis over the lack of enough vultures to consume corpses at the traditional Towers of Silence, a small band of "reformists", including priests, from the shrinking community of Parsi Irani Zoroastrians have begun supporting alternate modes of disposing the dead.
For the first time, some priests have agreed to perform last rites even for those who have been cremated or buried at a new Rs 1.5-crore prayer hall that will become fully functional from this month-end.
This gradually swelling group includes priests who had earlier flatly refused to pray for the dead during the four-day mourning period if the body was buried or cremated, which is strictly prohibited in the community.
Among them is Dastur Framroze S Mirza who has invoked the ire of the Bombay Parsi Panchayat for breaking with tradition.

World population in 2020 could be close to 8 billion (800 crores). More than 60% are abrahamic religion followers who want their dead bodies to to buried.
In next 40-50 years this present generation will naturally die. So by 2060-2070, we will have about 500 crore (5 billion) graves and so much space on earth wasted for burying the dead.
So, after 2060 there is hardly any place left for natural forests, agriculture, cities and towns to build houses etc.

So if people do not shift towards cremation, nature will eliminate them to save space on earth in next 30-40 years.
Few are dreaming to have their faith take over multiple countries and it will die with them.

Pandemics like corona are the only solution to these real-estate mafia who want you to bury and also buy your own burial space with all your savings at old age.
Already multi-floor grave apartments are normal in many such countries.

Only when people fear of Virus spreading from dead bodies too, they will burn them
