there is a story but thats unnecessary here
hair on head denotes head-weight or ego.
so losing hair in front of lord signifies shedding ego in front of him and mingling with other devotees

there\'s a story about a lady pulling out her hair to cover lord\'s bald patch on forehead and lord giving her a boon that all his devotees will donate their hair to cover up her lost hair.

but this story is inconsequential

hair on scalp prevent/block magnetic field from touching our brain through our scalp.
Test hair follicles and you will notice that they block magnetic fields.

Because we bend in front of diety in temple to recieve energy its magnetic field(transmitted from yantra placed under the feet of idol), we need to shave our head so that it passes directly to our brain.

Few people tonsure head and bow before the idol by laying on floor so that their scalp is at same level as idol\'s feet so that these invisible rays pass to them easily

It\'s really a nice explanation from Ranjana. A good angle!

A very new angle of explanation from Nivedita! Scientifically, there\'s a chance for that. If that\'s the case, I wonder how women will get that benefit as most of the women don\'t tonsure their heads. Anyway, good post Nivedita!!
