Every culture has few superstitions and they are related to numerology as well. The Chinese consider number 4 as most unlucky, because it sounds very close to the word death and they avoid it at any cost.
Floor numbers in apartments or shopping complexes, road numbers, house numbers, room numbers etc do not have number 4 in many places.
China lost their bid to host olympics in 2004 and they got a chance in 2008. This made them believe that number 4 is unlucky for them.
Chinese also consider combination of numbers 4 and 9, such as 49 or 94 to be unlucky.
That is because number 9 sounds close to the word for torture and suffering.
The Japanese avoid number 43 as it sounds very close to the sounds associated with the word for stillbirth.
Hospitals in Japan avoid room numbers 43.
They also consider number 24 to be dangerous and resonate with similar meaning of 43.
Indians consider number 17 to be unlucky, because it sums up to number 8 (1+7=8), which is controlled by Saturn (Sani).
Satra (17) – Khatra (Danger) is avoided by many.
It is generally observed that people born on date 17 of any month, struggle for many things in their life.
Saturn gives favorable result only after immense hardships. People born on dates 8 and 26 also experience delays in issues like marriage, job, childbirth etc.
Italians consider number 17 to be totally avoidable as Roman Numerical representation of 17 is XVII. This forms the word VIXI in Latin which means my life is over (suicide).
Number 666
Number 666 stands for the anti-christ (as shown in the movie – OMEN).
Bible says that it the Evil’s number.
This is avoided on Car plates, as last digits of phone numbers, room numbers in hotels (few countries).
In Afghanistan, number 39 is considered inauspicious. Many bad incidents in that country during past are associated with this number.
Also, when translated to traditional Afghani language, means morda gow which means dead cow.
This word is also used to address pimps who acquire prostitutes.
Tetraphobia and Number 4
Tetraphobia is the practice of avoiding instances of the number 4. It is a superstition most common in East Asian countries.
This is observed in elevators of China, where buttons for 4th, 13th, 14th, 24th floors will be missing !
Nokia, Samsung, Sony etc phone companies have avoided their 4th series. For example : Sony Xperia Z3+ was released instead of Sony Xperia Z4 !
Americans avoid number 13. Even in parsi culture, elevators and rooms are numbered 11, 12, 12A, 14… instead of 11, 12, 13, 14…
One more number that is feared is 26 and is associated with number 8 (Saturn).
Even numbers 2 (moon) & 6 (venus) are enemies.
This has brought many disasters, especially in India.
In 2001, Gujarat earth quake occured on 26 January.
Tsunami on 26 December 2004, Terrorists attack on Mumbai Taj Hotel on 26 November 2008 are few examples.
