Ayurveda suggests that dark circles and puffiness under eyes occur due to the dominance of Vata and Pitta factors, fire and air elements in the body.
Lack of proper sleep, excess expose to television, computer screen, sinusitis, protein deficiency can also cause dark circles, wrinkles and puffy bags under eyes.
So you need to rehydrate your facial skin and remove excess heat from body.
Ayurvedic Treatment for Dark Circles under Eyes
Treatment with Nutmeg : Nutmeg (जायफल in hindi, జాజికాయ in telugu) has Vitamins E and C in it. To cure stubborn dark circles that were existing since long time, make a paste of Nutmeg with water and apply it under eyes.
Let this paste remain overnight and next morning, wash your eyes with rose water.
You can also soak two cotton balls in rose water and place them over this paste overnight and wash with fresh water next morning.
With Lemon and Tomato : Tomato and Lemon have Vitamin C and bleaching properties. Make a paste with half tomato, slice of lemon, pinch of turmeric and green gram flour mixed in enough water.
Wash very gently under the eyes with this paste by using tip of your ring finger to massage under the eyes.
With Almonds : Mix 1 spoon of almonds paste with fresh milk and apply under the eyes.
Place a cucumber slice on them, close your eyes and leave for 15 minutes.
Wash with cool water while handling the under eye area gently.
You can also massage gently with Almond oil using tip of your rng finger before sleep.
With Mint and Lemon : Crush freshly collected mint leaves and add few drops of lemon juice to it.
Apply this paste under eyes and leave it for 15-20 minutes.
Mint will rehydrate skin under eyes and also freshens up your face.
Wash gently with cool fresh water.
With Sugarcane and Turmeric : Add enough sugarcane juice to 2 spoons of turmeric powder and make a paste. Let this paste settle down for 10 minutes.
Apply it under eyes and after 20 minutes, wash off with cool water.
With Cucumber and Potato : Take half Cucumber and one potato. Make their paste and extract juice from it.
Soak two cotton balls in this juice completely and place them on eyes for 20 minutes.
Wash gently with cold water.
Yogasanas and Diet to reduce dark circles under eyes
Apart from above quick remedies, one needs to change their diet and add more calcium, protein to their daily intake.
Also have food that contains more fiber and less sugar (carbohydrates).
Avoid sweets and drink plenty of water.
